The museum is 2 miles south east of the city centre, and is well signed both from the city and from the A36. (coaches should approach from city centre up Bathwick Hill.) Rail: Bath Spa station. Bus: All services going to the University; alight at theAvenue then a 10-minute walk.

Perched on the hillside overlooking a stunning valley sits Claverton Manor, an elegant Georgian-style home built in 1820. For over 40 years this magnificent building has been home to the American Museum in Britain. It contains a unique collection of decorative arts, in period rooms, illustrating the way our colonial ancestors lived between the 17th and 19th centuries.

Wander through the new American Heritage exhibition, learning more about the Founding Fathers, Native Americans and the Civil War. Hear stories of brave individuals who made the journey across the sea, either willingly or not, to an unknown destiny. Computer actives, touch screens. Great for kids of all ages. Enjoy over 30 acres of spectacular grounds – parkland, an arboretum of American trees and a replica of George Washington’s Mount Vernon Garden.
